R-Jazz came into being through a shared love of soulful music including Jazz, Funk, Disco, Soul and of course, Dance and House music. Ash Cornez started his DJ journey back in 2009, purchasing some technics 1200s, and learning how to mix and play the organic way, still holding and adding to that vinyl collection today, eventually making the transition onto the Pioneer CDJs over the following years.

Through that shared love of many different genres, DJ and Producer Ash Cornez and session musician/multi-instrumentalist and producer Nick M. found themselves together in a studio session. Out of that initial session came something truly inspiring, fusing Jazz, Disco, Latin and Funk within a soulful Dance music framework. It quickly became apparent that in light of their different backgrounds but shared love of both the UK’s vibrant and creative DJ community and the UK’s jazz, funk and soul live music scenes respectively, Nick and Ash complemented each other creatively and musically.

Now affiliated with record label Certified Organik Records owned by Todd Gardner, R-Jazz will be making new music in the coming months. The relationship with Certified Organik Records came about through a collision of fortunate circumstance, Ash met Todd through a casual conversation after an unexpected meeting via mutual friends in 2021 at the Vocal Booth Weekender hosted by Andy Ward. Ash was aware of Todd’s music and pedigree but was unaware that he was speaking to him.

The two spoke about life, family, music and eventually caught a taxi together back to the airport where they discussed future plans. After keeping in touch with Todd and discussing working together, Ash attended the 2022 Southport Weekender and met Julie B the Certified Organik label manager; from that point on, Julie as well as Todd have been a source of guidance and inspiration as R-Jazz evolve creatively and artistically.

Following this the duo found renewed inspiration and immediately went into the studio and completed R-Jazz’s first handful of tracks which will be released on Certified Organik Records in Autumn 2022.

Moving forward into the future, R-Jazz plan to release more music on Certified Organik Records, develop their social media following alongside live music/DJ events around the world in parallel with regular releases of original material and remixes.

R-Jazz will be releasing monthly mixes on Mixcloud, alongside playing and hosting DJ events around the UK and Europe moving forward into 2023.
